Race Report: 2017 Zealand Regional Championship - Round 1
2017 Zealand Regional Championship - Round 1
- Copenhagen Karting Circuit
- DASU KZ
- Driver: Nicklas Rasmussen

The last weekend of April the NHR Racing Team competed in the opening round of the 2017 Zealand Regional Championship at the Copenhagen Karting Circuit. After a challenging qualifying session the team improved the setup on the kart and was able to bring home a 3rd place finish.

In the morning practice the team completed the planed program and was able to show some good speed. For qualifying the weather improved and the track temperature got wormer. Unfortunately the team did not get the setup right and Nicklas struggled with a lot of high speed oversteer. The qualifying got the team a 7th place starting position for the first heat race!

The first heat the team made some changes on the setup to rectify the issues that Nicklas had in qualifying. At the start of the heat Nicklas got off to a fantastic start and made his way up to third place in the first lap. The pace was quite good during the heat, but it was not enough to keep Daniel Stærkær behind, and Nicklas finished the first heat in fourth place.

In the second heat it was much the same story from the first heat. Nicklas got another good start and once again found him self in third place. However this time it was Rasmus Bornhøft challenging Nicklas throughout the heat. It was a fantastic battle between the two drivers but at the end Rasmus got by Nicklas for third place, and Nicklas had to settle for fourth.

Time for the finale. Nicklas had to start the from 4th on the grid. Nicklas once again got another fantastic start and this time found him self in second place after the first lap. However Marcus Bay Lange was right behind Nicklas and he eventually found his way around Nicklas. During the rest of the heat Nicklas was able to able to keep the speed in the kart! And at the end of the race he finished in third place and got him and the team on the podium!

Nicklas Rasmussen: That was a great day for us! We did not get of to the best start with our issues in qualifying. However the team were able to solve the problems and give me a fast kart for the heats. We were able to get fantastic starts in every heat and that gave us the opportunity we needed to make our way all up to the top end of the field! I am very happy to bring home a podium to the team. They put in a lot of hard work and it feels great to reward them with a podium finish! I would also like to thank GP Kart Denmark for all the help!

The Next race of the 2017 Zealand Regional Championship will take place at Roskilde Racing Centre June 2 - 4.

Race Preview - Zealand Regional Championship round one.
Class: DASU KZ

This weekend the team will race in the first round of Zealand Regional Championship. This race will take place at the Copenhagen Karting Circuit.

Friday practice: 12;00PM - 6;00PM

Race day (Sunday)
Free practice: 9;00AM - 11;00AM
Qualifying: 11;20AM -12;20PM
Heat Start: 13;00PM

Nicklas Rasmussen - Race Driver The track in Copenhagen is very technical. There are not a lot of overtaking opportunities and the lap is very short. The track is also very demanding on the driver, especially turn one that is a 90 degree turn that is taking in 6th gear. Turn two is a 180 degree turn and is the best place to overtake. After that you go into a very narrow part of the track, where overtaking is very difficult but not impossible. The final part of the track has a little chicane that you must go through with perfect precession because after that you arrive to the final turn and the speed you carry through here, you will have with you all the way down to turn two.

The weather for Friday does not look too good, but on Sunday we should have a nice day.

The track in Copenhagen hosted the karting world championship back in 1964. Since then there have been a lot of memorable races, and the track is also host to the traditional race "DM Revancen" (this year called DSK Revancen) every year!

Shakedown test!
Yesterday the team was on the track for the first time this year at Roskilde Racing Center. Like last year the team is racing with a GP chassis and a TM (M18) engine in the National Shifter kart class. Nicklas Rasmussen got out in the track late in the session, and the team managed to brake in the engine and make some systems checks. The team completed a total of 18 laps.

NHR Racing Team would like to thank Gp-racing Denmark Aps for their support!

Tomorrow the team will be attending a test day at Roskilde Racing Center.

First pictures of our 2017 kart revealed
We were unfortunately running out of time to get kart our 100% ready for our planned team presentation today. So while there is still some details that are not finished we have decided that we will show our 2017 DASU KZ kart to the public anyway.

Like last season, the chassis is a "GP kart" and while the kart is without it's engine on the pictures, it will be powered by a TM KZ10 (M18) engine. Some upgrades to the kart includes updated electronics and new performance technology. The kart has also been given an updated visual design for the 2017 season. This season will also see the DASU KZ class move from Vega to Bridgestone tires.

The presentation is sponsored by bildeleshop.dk
